The EM Acoustics R8 is a passive three-way point-source loudspeaker, not a two-way box. It combines two 8-inch low-frequency drivers with a coaxial 4-inch/2.5-inch mid/high-frequency compression driver.
Coverage options
Every R8 is supplied with interchangeable wide and narrow waveguides. The wide guide provides 110° × 50° coverage; the narrow guide provides 80° × 50°. Both can be rotated, allowing the pattern to suit horizontal or vertical mounting.
Changing the waveguide also requires the matching amplifier preset. Tell us how each cabinet will be positioned and what area it must cover so we can supply it in the correct configuration.
Performance and amplification
EM Acoustics specifies a 70 Hz–20 kHz frequency response, 128 dB continuous output and 134 dB peak. Power handling is 750 W RMS/1,500 W programme at a nominal 8 ohms.
The R8 is passive but relies on the FIR processing in a compatible EM Acoustics system amplifier for its intended performance and protection. The manufacturer lists one R8 per DQ6 channel, two per DQ10 channel or three per DQ20 channel at full output. Final loading still depends on the complete system design.
Low-frequency extension below the cabinet’s 70 Hz response should be handled by suitable subwoofers rather than by asking the R8 to reproduce material outside its intended range.
Size, rigging and cabling
The cabinet measures 580 × 260 × 377 mm and weighs 23 kg. Our units travel in flight cases with both waveguides. Mounting accessories, including the R8 vertical flying frame and stand adapters, are separate hire items.
Audio connections use speakON input and link-through. We can supply short NL4 links between cabinets and longer runs to the amplifier rack. Any flown arrangement must be designed from EM Acoustics’ rigging information by a competent person, with the correct frame and hardware specified for the load.
